The Alaska Dogstead Mushing Company
About
The Alaska Dogstead Mushing Company is a working kennel and homestead located on 160 acres near Big Lake, Alaska, an hour from Anchorage in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. Founded in 1966, the Dogstead is home to Team Petit, led by accomplished distance musher Nicolas Petit, who trains his champion Alaskan Huskies year-round for the Iditarod and other mid-distance sled dog races. The business offers visitors an authentic mushing experience through interactive dog sled tours and kennel tours, where guests meet, harness, and ride with the dogs, along with rustic yurt rentals on the property.
