Nod Brook Wildlife Management Area
About
Nod Brook Wildlife Management Area is a 137-acre state-managed property located along the Farmington River in Avon and Simsbury that serves primarily as a dog training and field trial area, with a special focus on water-based retriever trials. The facility was formerly the Holloway Farm and was purchased by the State in 1975, featuring managed fields, an extensive pond system, and habitat that has been enhanced through Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Program funding. While the property is open to the public for fishing, hunting, hiking, wildlife viewing, and kayaking during most days, it hosts organized field trial events approximately 50 days annually when access is restricted to ensure safety and avoid conflicts with dog club activities.
