Salem Play Area for Canine Exercise (SPACE)

Salem Play Areas for Canine Exercise (SPACE) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2005 that manages Leslie’s Retreat Dog Park in Salem, Massachusetts. The fenced off-leash dog park features separate areas for large dogs and small dogs under 30 pounds, with amenities including shade, seating, water fountains, and dedicated pool areas during warmer months. SPACE works with the City of Salem’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services department to coordinate regular maintenance and long-term improvements, funding operations through Pooch Pass sales ($25 annually per dog), private donations, and fundraising efforts. Dogs must be registered with a Pooch Pass requiring proof of city licensure, rabies vaccination, and distemper vaccination.
