Greycliff Prairie Dog Town State Park
About
Greycliff Prairie Dog Town State Park is a 98-acre state park located 9 miles east of Big Timber, Montana, dedicated to protecting and preserving the black-tailed prairie dog community and their natural habitat. Established through the collaborative efforts of Montana State Parks, the Nature Conservancy, and the Montana Department of Transportation, the park offers visitors a unique opportunity to observe prairie dogs in their natural environment through interpretive displays and direct observation. The park’s creation was inspired by wildlife photographer Edward Boehm’s advocacy efforts in the late 1960s to save the prairie dog colony from Interstate 90 highway construction, making it one of Montana’s few state parks named after the animal it protects.
