Chesterfield Gorge Natural Area
About
Chesterfield Gorge Natural Area is a 13-acre New Hampshire state park located on Route 9 in Chesterfield that features a dramatic rocky gorge with towering 70-foot walls, cascades, and waterfalls along Wilde Brook. The park preserves this natural wonder through a 0.7-mile loop trail offering hiking, picnicking, and scenic views, with a seasonal visitor center and diverse flora and fauna. The area owes its preservation to local farmer George White, who purchased the gorge in 1936 to protect it from loggers and later sold it to the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, which donated the land to the state in 1948.
