Fort Stevenson State Park
About
Fort Stevenson State Park is a 586-acre public recreation area located on Lake Sakakawea, four miles south of Garrison, North Dakota, operated by the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department. Named after a 19th-century frontier military fort, the park features two full-service marinas, modern camping facilities and cabins, hiking and biking trails, a guardhouse museum, and recreational opportunities including fishing, boating, and swimming. The park preserves the history of the original Fort Stevenson, built in 1867 and abandoned in 1883, with a reconstructed guardhouse serving as an interpretive center about the fort’s role in Dakota Territory history.
