About
White Horse Hill National Game Preserve is a 1,674-acre national wildlife refuge located near Saint Michael, North Dakota, managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Established in 1904 by President Theodore Roosevelt as a big game preserve and breeding ground for wild animals and birds, the refuge protects diverse habitats including woodlands, prairies, and wetlands that support bison, elk, prairie dogs, and more than 250 bird species. The preserve offers visitors year-round recreational opportunities including scenic auto tours, hiking trails, wildlife observation, and environmental education programs through its visitor center.
