Tillinghast Pond Management Area
About
The Tillinghast Pond Management Area is a 2,200-acre preserve in West Greenwich, Rhode Island, managed by The Nature Conservancy in partnership with the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management and the Town of West Greenwich. Permanently conserved in 2006 through the community’s overwhelming support—with voters approving an $8 million bond by a vote of 632 to 12—the preserve provides a 13-mile trail system and offers outstanding recreational opportunities including hiking, fishing, kayaking, and canoeing while safeguarding the pristine headwaters of the Wood River. The Nature Conservancy maintains active stewardship through forest management, habitat restoration, and volunteer programs including the Friends of the Preserves, establishing Tillinghast Pond as one of Rhode Island’s premier outdoor destinations.
