Dog River Park
About
Dog River Park in Northfield, Vermont is a public recreation area and floodplain restoration project developed following the flooding from Tropical Storm Irene in 2011. The park, located along the Dog River and managed by the Town of Northfield in partnership with Friends of the Winooski River, serves as both a community gathering space with walking trails, river access, and environmental education opportunities, and as a functioning natural floodplain that reduces downstream flooding. The park has been recognized with a Vermont Public Places Merit Award for its innovative approach to combining flood mitigation with public recreation and community benefit.
