Dog Mountain, Dog Chapel
About
Dog Mountain is a 150-acre nonprofit property in Saint Johnsbury, Vermont, featuring the world-famous Dog Chapel alongside hiking trails, ponds, and galleries dedicated to folk artist Stephen Huneck’s dog-inspired artwork. Founded by Stephen and Gwen Huneck starting in 1995, the Dog Chapel opened in 2000 as a sacred space where visitors celebrate their spiritual bond with dogs through photos, letters, and tributes to cherished pets. Since the Hunecks’ passing, Friends of Dog Mountain nonprofit organization has maintained the free, public grounds where dogs can roam off-leash, and the site continues to host community events including dog parties, memorial celebrations, and summer concerts.
